Using Pareidolia to see Beyond the Obvious.

Pareidolia, the psychological phenomenon

The Mysteries in Colour ™ workshop takes advantage of a neuroscience phenomenon called Pareidolia (per-ˌī-ˈdō-lē-ə). Pareidolia is our tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern. Seeing a dragon in a patch of clouds, a face on the moon, a bear in the stars a clown in a mud splatter are examples of Pareidolia.

Unique Perspectives.Unique Solutions

The workshop fosters imaginative thinking like a child, helps acknowledge the value of other perspectives and generate unconventional solutions.

Discover

Participants pick an inkblot and engage their imagination to find clues to familiar patterns like a face, humans, animals, flowers, landscapes or objects. Each participant may imagine something different in the inkblot because of their unique perspective.

Develop

Once they find a clue to a familiar shape in the inkblot, they will use colour pencils to define and reveal the form, thereby bringing their imagination to life. No art skills are required to participate in the workshop.

Reveal

Once they have sufficiently developed and defined their discovery, they reveal their artwork to their peers. This can be a mind-opening moment for all participants because they will see other equally valid perspectives and solutions to the same problem.
